SOCIAL MEDIA & CONFIDENTIALITY POLICY
For: Tyler Dawneé Young, LCSW
Last Updated: 11/24/2025
1. Purpose of This Policy
This Social Media Policy explains how I manage professional boundaries, confidentiality, and online interactions to protect your privacy and meet ethical and legal standards.
Because social media platforms are not confidential and are public spaces, this policy exists to ensure that your therapeutic relationship and personal information remain protected.
2. No Social Media Interactions With Clients
To protect your confidentiality and maintain clinical boundaries, I do not:
-
Follow current or former clients on social media
-
Accept friend or follow requests
-
Interact with client posts
-
Comment on or “like” posts
-
Respond to clinical messages via DM
-
Engage in private messaging for therapy purposes
-
Acknowledge any therapeutic relationship online
These boundaries are based on ethical guidelines and California/Utah telehealth laws.
3. Social Media is Not Therapy
Content shared on my social media pages is intended for:
-
Psychoeducation
-
Mental health awareness
-
General support
-
Professional updates
-
Tips and insights
-
Practice information
It is not a substitute for therapy, diagnosis, treatment, or clinical advice.
Consuming content does not establish a therapeutic relationship.
4. Confidentiality & Privacy on Social Platforms
Social media platforms (e.g., Instagram, Facebook, Threads) are not confidential environments.
If you choose to follow or view my social media content:
-
Your identity may be visible to others
-
Your engagement (likes, comments) is public
-
I cannot control who sees or tracks your activity
-
I will not acknowledge or confirm that we work together
Your privacy is my priority, and I will not take any action that could reveal your therapeutic relationship with me.
5. Direct Messages (DMs)
Please do not send clinical, personal, or urgent messages via social media.
I do not monitor DMs for therapeutic communication.
DMs are not secure and are not appropriate for:
-
Scheduling or cancellations
-
Sharing mental health concerns
-
Asking for advice
-
Any urgent matters
-
Personal or sensitive information
For therapy-related communication, use the secure client portal or your agreed-upon HIPAA-compliant communication method.
6. Reviews & Testimonials
To comply with ethical and legal standards:
-
I cannot request, accept, or respond to online reviews from current or former clients.
-
I cannot publicly acknowledge you as a client, even if you post a review.
-
I cannot respond to feedback in a way that confirms a therapeutic relationship.
If you choose to leave a review, be aware that you may unintentionally disclose your status as a client.
7. Tagging, Mentions, or Public Interaction
To protect your confidentiality, I do not engage with client tags, mentions, or comments.
If you tag or mention my professional accounts:
-
I will not engage
-
I will not repost
-
I will not acknowledge the tag
-
This protects you and your privacy
You are free to engage with my content, but please be aware of these boundaries.
8. Crisis or Emergency Contact via Social Media
Social media is not monitored for urgent or emergency communications.
I cannot guarantee timely or any response through DMs or comments.
If you are in crisis or in danger, do not contact me through social media.
Instead, please contact:

-

9. Boundaries for Professional Content
I may share general themes, psychoeducation, or mental health information on social media.
I will never share or discuss:
-
Client information
-
Client stories
-
Identifiable details
-
Session content
-
Personal information
-
Anything that violates confidentiality
Any educational examples will be composites or fictionalized for privacy and ethical purposes.
10. Respect for Your Privacy
Your privacy is central to our work.
To safeguard it, I will:
-
Avoid acknowledging any therapeutic relationship online
-
Avoid interacting with you on social platforms
-
Avoid engaging with posts you create
-
Avoid responding publicly to your comments
These boundaries protect both confidentiality and therapeutic integrity.
